By Baffi Henry May 14, 2020 14:47I have been waiting for this the chaos warhound to be released.
First impressions
Opening the box and the first thing I noticed was the carapace was broken. Reason being is that along the folded seam, the resin is super thin. It needs to be thicker to survive the trip or that specific part needs to be wrapped very carefully. Other than that all the parts are there , none look to bad aside from that I have mentioned already.
With this being a chaos vehicle, imperfections in the cast can be painted over and cleaned up to look like the damage or work paint you would expect from a chaotic warmachine.
The feet are all pretty good detail, all the pistons and joints fit with minimal clean up. The pistons themselves could be better. The minor detail is rough , the skulls and corners aren't as crisp or clean as it could be. Be careful fitting the to the ball joints.. the side wall that goes over the ball joints is very thin and will break easily.
The leg assembly is in pretty good shape, no warpage, though there was minor shrinkage. Use hot water to fix any warp in the joints. Again fine detail is lacking. On the joints there are these ridges which are very thin. The seem to break very easily so again caution.|
Hip and main body are also in good shape. This is where you will notice shrinkage. The ball joints on the hip suffer from shrinkage in the cast. They aren't a snug fit, little to much play. A fix that is easily remedied. The body also suffers from some shrinkage, nothing major but will need filler for the joints, minor sanding, and clean up.
The shoulder mounts and weapons are both in good condition..Again all the ball joints suffer from some shrinkage. Not snug but very workable. The vulcan mega bolter is perfect. I found no defects worth mentioning. The plasma cannon inside the ball joint at the bottom is very very thin.
As I assembled the model I noticed areas of the cast that were shiny in comparison to the surrounding area but also looked gooped on. I am assuming someone as each item was pulled out of the mold slathered resin in areas they either knew were thin or looked weak.
The pilot cockpit was in good condition no warpage or shrinkage. The carapace for the cockpit required hot water to reshape. Otherwise no other issues.
Over all the cast isn't bad for what it is. There are areas for improvement but for 200 I am not expecting perfection. I feel its worth the money in comparison to FW. Glad to have been the first to review this.. Hope it helps others when they are deciding on whether to drop 2 Benji's on a warhound.
